clean out favorites and history

Over time you may notice that your favorites in your favorite browser has become almost unmanageable. We browse to a site, find an important and interesting article or piece of information, bookmark it, and never go back to it. I know that I am guilty of it! I have a problem! The first step is admitting it, the next step is to take care of it.
How do we do this exactly? Grab your morning cup of coffee and get ready for the easiest housekeeping you will ever do!

Clean out Favorites

For Internet Explorer:

Go to Start-->Documents and Settings
Your "User Name" ("Jerry" for example)-->Favorites
You will now have a folder view of all of your bookmarks. You can delete all of the ones that you don't want. When you are done, simply open up Internet Explorer and check your Favorites. You should see a squeeky clean house! Congratulations! If only housework was this easy!

Favorites aren't the only thing that builds up over time however. There is a terrific FREE program called CCleaner that will clean your history, cookies, and all kinds of other junk that builds up over time and slows down your mahcine. Let's jump right in and finish cleaning up shall we?

Download and install the program from the link above. Once you have it installed follow these steps:

  1. First open CCleaner
  2. Go to the Cleaner tab. In the Cleaner tab you will see tons of checkboxes. Follow this advice:
  3. Under Internet Explorer-->check temporary internet files, cookies, history, and last download location. You can also select bookmarks if you want. Keep in mind that all of your favorites will be gone if you select bookmarks! You can leave Windows Explorer, System, and Advanced alone unless you know what you are doing.
  4. Go ahead and Run CCleaner. It will display a report when it is done, but you can disregard this.
For the purposes of this tutorial that is all you need to know! Your favorites are trimmed down to just how you like them and all of that junk you accumulate over time surfing the net is gone!
