how to rip a cd and transfer to an mp3 player
The method for this will vary depending on what player that you have and whether or not you have a software preference. If you do, let me know in the comments, and I can show you how the process works using that software. In this tutorial, I will be using Windows Media Player because it is on every PC, it is easy to use, and supports all (now defunct) Plays for Sure MP3 players. Are you ready to get rockin'?

The first step is to open up Windows Media Player (Start-->All Programs-->Windows Media Player). Once you open WMP, you will notice a series of tabs along the top used for navigating the program. They are as follows:
Now Playing | Library | Rip | Burn | Sync | Media Guide

The second step is to insert your music cd into your computer. After you have done this, your computer may pop up a window asking what you want to do with the cd. Go ahead and close this if it pops up. Now that the cd is in, you are going to want to click on the Rip tab. You will see your cd listed on the left, with checkboxes and the song titles listed further to the right.

If you wish to rip the entire cd onto your computer go ahead and click the Start Rip button in the lower right corner of Windows Media Player. If you don't want the entire cd, then simply uncheck the box in front of the song(s) that you do not want.

You will now see a status indicator under the Rip Status column.
Once it is done, that is it! The songs are on your computer! Feel good about yourself? You should...you are one step closer to Geekdom!
We aren't done yet though are we? We lead mobile lives, and want to take our media with us. Luckily we have no shortage of devices to enable us to do so. Let's dig in and see how to get music from our computer to our MP3 player. We are still in Windows Media Player, so let's jump back in while the water is still warm!
Remember those tabs along the top?
You are now going to want to click on the Sync tab.
You will see a list of the music in your library in the main window of the program.
Along the right side, you will see a two-part column. In the top-right part of this column you will see your device, and underneath it will be a Sync List column. All you have to do at this point is to click on the album that you want on your device and drag it into the Sync List column. Once you have all of the music that you want on your device in the Sync List column, simply click the Start Sync button in the bottom of the pane.
That is it. That is all there is to it. You can now take your tunes with you wherever you go! I hope that you found this tutorial useful. It was a hurried effort, and I wasn't able to fully flesh it out, but if you have a question or suggestion please feel free to leave a comment below or fire me off an email!
Oh, and now that you are rockin' please remember to hug your favorite Geek. It tends to brighten our day!
